In memorian

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the loss of Associate Professor Olle Nelzén who passed away on 25 September 2025 after a brief illness. Olle reached the age of 73 years. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne and his children, Oskar, Elias and Sofia and two grandchildren.

Olle Nelzén was born on 2 April 1952 in Stockholm. The majority of his career has been at Skaraborg Hospital Skövde, Sweden as vascular surgeon and researcher. He defended his dissertation in Uppsala 1997 with the title “Patients with chronic leg ulcer: aspects on epidemiology, aetiology, clinical history, prognosis and choice of treatment”. Olles determined contribution to the understanding, prevention, diagnostics and treatment of chronic leg ulceration and venous incompetence is widely recognised. Through repeated validated epidemiological studies combined with active treatment plans, including early surgical treatment of venous incompetence the venous ulcer point prevalence in Skaraborg area has decreased by 71% between 1998 and 2014. He was a long time board member of Scandinavian Venous Forum and was made honorary member of Swedish Society of vascular Surgery 2020.

In private, my father was a dedicated skier (both cross-country and alpine), horseman, and runner.
